The O.W. Trainee Education begins in August every year.

The following provides an overview of some of the subjects an oil trader trainee learns about during the 2-year program:

  • An overall introduction to the Wrist Group, of which O.W. Bunker Group is part. The purpose is to give the trainee qualified knowledge about the company.
  • Participation in Bunker Schools courses, which are located in e.g. Oxford or Rotterdam: The courses offer an overall knowledge about the oil environment. Here you will learn more about the financial and legal issues of trading oil products and being a part of the oil market.
  • Market knowledge: You will learn more about the oil market and the market mechanisms and drivers from an O.W. Bunker Group perspective.
  • Barge operation: You will be stationed on one of our oil ships (barges) to learn about the logistics process in selling oil products to customers.
  • Shipping course: Most of our customers are ship owners, and it is compulsory for an oil trader to have good insight of the shipping business.
  • Sales course: Here you will learn more about sales techniques, marketing, managing accounts etc.
  • Risk Management: Hedging and trying to cover the large amounts of dollars exposure to the customer through the stock market is an important aspect of your trainee program. Risk assessment is a daily operation for an oil trader on a volatile oil market.
  • Visiting the other divisions of Wrist Group: Knowing your Group is essential for your overall understanding, and you will obtain day to day knowledge about the Wrist Shipping and Ove Wrist & Co A/S divisions through these visits.
  • Rotation to other departments and living abroad: In the last stage of the trainee program you will be stationed to another office abroad to see and learn other cultures, trade oil in other markets and to be part of the O.W. Bunker Group international environment. Individual arrangements for the rotation are made for each trainee according to the wishes and requirements of both the trainee and the company.
  • Internal procedures for the O.W. Bunker Group business are essential to an oil trader. Learning how to undertake business on a day to day basis is gained through the principle "learning by doing". You will soon be trusted with a large amount of responsibility for different accounts, from the purchase of oil products from the supplier to the sale of oil products to the customer.
  • Several scheduled conversations between you and your office manager and the trainee coach are planned as a natural follow-up on your development so that you and the company can be assured of your success.
  • During or after the trainee program you will have the opportunity to participate in courses at Business Schools or Universities according to the wishes and requirements of both you and the company. These arrangements are planned on an individual basis.
